USAG Massachusetts Judge Selection Process for State Meets

All judges considered for state meets should:

have a positive attitude and pleasant demeanor

be active in the JO program

have a history of courtesy to athletes, coaches, and volunteers

            be pro-athlete

  1. Request availability from NAWGJ;  this is currently supplied in chart form

  2. Begin selection process for judges for optional state meets.  Any judge assigned to L9 & 10 regionals, Easterns, or Nationals should be assigned to the L 9 & 10 state meet.

  3. Select chief judges and meet referee.

Use judges with L10 or higher rating for optional meets, and L9 or higher for compulsory meets.

    Chief judges should have:

Check selected judges for potential affiliation.

  4. Select acting (second) judges

Second judges should have the ability to remain consistent throughout a competition of any length.

  5. Select alternate chief judges and second judges.  Alternates will listed alphabetically.
Judges assigned as alternates will be expected to keep themselves available until the night before the competition.  Alternates may be assigned to another Massachusetts USAG meet; if they are needed on a state meet, they will be removed from the other meet.

  6.  Repeat steps 3 through 5 for judges for compulsory state meets.

  7. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for judges for state cups.

All judges assigned to state meets, including alternates, will be expected to make themselves available for at least one sectional at the level to which they are assigned.  Judges who accept a sectional but later remove themselves from it will be removed from that state meet.

USAG Massachusetts will attempt to balance the participation of all JO judges in the state meet system.
